PROGETTAZIONE IMPIANTISTICA PER L’ARCHITETTURA
PLANTS DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
1 semester, divided in two parts (6 ECTS + 6 ECTS)
25 september – 10 december 2010, theorethical/methodological section
15 december – 28 february 2011, practical activities (design) section
- Course dedicated to civil, environmental and mechanical engineers, 4th-5th year of Master Degree
- Practical activities done by integrated groups of 4-5 students each
- Interim examine at the end of the first section
- Presentation and discussion, at the end of the second section, of a project of a full integrated HVAC/electrical plant for a given building, for each group
- Currently about 40-45 students, comprising some 3-4 in Erasmus mobility
- Teachers: two official professors and 3 PhD as tutors
Topics
1. Methodological basis: e.g. climate and solar radiation, heat & mass & momentum transfer, comfort theories, basics of the experimental method models and simulations as possible tools
2. About the building: Materials, Bioclimatics, Ventilation, passive systems, retrofit, renewable energy integration,
sustainable use of the building (LCA etc)
3. About the plants: Integration, Duration diagrams & Temperature levels, Energy recovery, Design and design tools
(CAD etc), Optimal plants use and regulation
4.Certification/Optimation: Results of EPA strict application, Regulatory local scenarios, 2nd level analysis, Energy
management critical issues.
Teaching improvements for USE Efficiency
In the dedicated Training Course we intend to propose to the students a choice between the traditional 2nd section of the presently available course, and a partially modified/integrated version comprising the 2nd level audit and a project implementing its results instead of the full design of an integrated HVAC/electrical plant. The specificity of the new Course should stress the following points:
Goals
To give students a common basic balanced background
- To transfer to students the spirit of our project
- To transfer to students knowledge for measurements
- To give students tools for 2nd level audit
- To prepare students to discussion
- To transfer to students the necessary criticism
- To train students to “social” dissemination.
Risks to be avoided
- To repeat current certification courses
- To make usual mistakes
- To forget the dissemination final scope
- To repeat “trivial” common statements
- To ignore costs of the implementation of the ideas.
