All above are mandatory courses for Electric Energy direction and selectable courses for all others.
The USE Eff student training Since it is not feasible to insert an individual topic in the existing Syllabus, the student training for the USE Eff will be accomplished by a special optional seminar.
The seminar is scheduled to cover the following Units:
UNIT 1: REGULATORY FRAMEWORK 1. The European policy and the EU energy objectives and directives 2. The EPBD and EPBD-RECAST at the European level 3. National legislation concerning EPBD 4. Energy assessment and audits
UNIT 2: BASIC ITEMS 1. Economics of energy savings 2. Retrofiting in buildings and new constructions problems 3. Climate and Comfort issues 4. Energy conscious behavior of users
UNIT 3: THE BUILDING 1. Heat transfer 2. Building envelope behavior 3. Ventilation and passive systems 4. Materials and sustainability
UNIT 4: INSTALLATIONS IN BUILDINGS 1. HVAC basic power and energy issues 2. Lighting and electrical power issues 3. Energy management, monitoring & control. 4. Innovation and renewables
UNIT 5: ENERGY PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT 1. Conceptual approach and available tools 2. 1st Level audit activities 3. Data acquisition planning 4. 2nd Level audit (technical & economical approach)
UNIT 6: PRACTICE 1. Energy auditing of the selected buildings 2. Documents release & final report 3. Final presentations, selection of participants for the Summer School
The first 5 Units will be covered in 50 h in the period from mid October 2010 to the end of November 2010. Unit 6 is scheduled to start in December 2010 and will last till the end of February 2011. Depending on the semester exams period, an extension till March 2011 is also possible.
The course is offered mainly for students of the 7th semester. Seniors may also apply for the course, provided that they will be available during the summer of 2011 to attend the Summer School if selected. As a pre-requisitive for the selection, all potential students must have completed successfully the Heat Transfer topic of the 6th semester.
All students that will participate the course and complete successfully the Unit 6 project, will get a certificate of participation, issued by the Power Systems Laboratory of the Department.
