Universidad Politécnica de Valencia – Institute for Energy Engineering (UPV - IIE), Spain
The Institute for Energy Engineering (IIE), approved by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) on April, 10th, 2001, has two main objectives:
- to address in a multidisciplinary way the different areas involved in the Energy R&D
- to perform strategic and evaluation studies on energy planning,
With this objective the IIE is divided in six areas: Thermal, Electric, Renewable, Nuclear, Planning and Prospective, and Non Energetic Applications, covering the needs of the energy sector, which is in continuous evolution.
Concretely, Energy Efficiency Activities within the Electrical Area are based on the development of a new energy management system (DERD) to allow the active demand response being implemented in different sectors to benefit customers with all the opportunities that a large customer may have from consuming energy smartly. Also, IIE has very active activities in promoting the rational energy use in the University. Furthermore, one of the research lines at the IIE is the “Design and Implementation of Flexible Systems for Energy Supply”, where the developments carried out in this task are aimed to the design and construction of energy supply systems that facilitate an efficient integration of all the distributed energy resources.
