Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is the largest university in Greece, with 12 faculties consisting of 42 departments and about 49.000 "active" students. The teaching – research staff consists of 2.500 people. Furthermore, it employs 1500 members of administrative and technical staff. The Research Committee of Aristotle University (AUTH/RC) is an independent part of the University, a law body, exclusively responsible for the management of the contractual research within the University.

It runs under the direction of 40 elected members from corpus legendi, while president ex officio of this board is one of the three elected Vice Rectors, now Prof. Stavros Panas, Vice Rector of the University. The executive board consists of 7 elected members. The accounting department of the Research Committee has a special unit for European projects. The accounting system of the RC is under the control of the Ministry of National Economy and is regularly audited by the body of Certified Public Accountants. In the last 3 years the RC has collaborated with 1.700 partners (Universities, Research Centres, Companies) for the implementation of 3.500 RTD Projects. The overall budget of these projects reached 150 M €. The annual turnover of the Research Committee is 46.920.000 €.

The work of this project will be carried out by the Power Systems Laboratory (PSL) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Laboratory is running since 1980 under its constitution set in the Greek Law. It has been involved in more than 50 contract projects, mostly related to the research and development of power systems, renewable energy sources, electric power and consumption control, environmental impacts from power generation and applications of Information Technologies. The staff of the PSL consists of 3 Professors, 1 Assoc. Professor, 1 As. Professor, 2 Lecturers, 5 postdoctoral researchers, 15 postgraduate students and 9 members of administrative and technical staff.
